The Cowshed Blog No.6

Well, its summer, again! Show season is in full swing, my very good friends won the interbreed at the Highland show recently, we were so thrilled for them, its a huge Achievement, and that must mean the Royal Welsh show is just around the corner, and the summer holidays are in sight at long last, I’m all done with lunch box ideas for the year. There’s been loads going on here on the farm since I last wrote (almost a year ago!) some good, some bad, and we have been making some changes, after my slipped discs got better, my foot got smashed up by someone else’s horse in September last year, leaving me with no feeling in the top and bottom of it (handy for standing, driving….!), and the shop firmly closed, but time has gone on and after selling a few cows, we`ve struggled on through and hopefully that mentally, physically and financially draining time has gone by, not to be seen again!

We are gearing up to rejig the website to include the farming activities, same website address, we will just be adding in the other farm diversifications ..

My retirement livery is up and running and we have some really lovely horses living here, as well as lovely owners to match, between my back and my foot, I probably wont ride again, so its a lovely way to keep horses on the farm, though the kids have turned poo picking into a competitive sport! Long may the novelty last, we are also taking in horses and ponies for short term respite, when your on holiday, short of grass or they need turning away for a few months, please do get in touch with us and we will be more than happy to help, you can aslo book your horse in for a week and stay locally, we have glorious riding here, miles of lanes and hundreds and hundreds of acres of common riding (its up a hill, but its flat on the top) with amazing views.

The pond. oh the pond, how we have looked and looked at you for years and thought…what can we do, its fot an island, and its spring fed, but with a local otter dining out on all the fish we origionlly put in…what next? Mt friend Hannah suggested wild swimming, what’s that I said, you know, swimming in ponds and lakes…are you joking it will be freezing! Yes, she said, that’s the point, ok, lets do that then, swimming pond ahoy!

Flowers, I love flowers specifically roses, climbing and wild, and old, forgotten and rare tulips and daffodils. I'm not quite sure where this is going yet but we have bulbs we have some room so we'll see what happens…

So I think that's enough for now so I think that's enough for now really what with having a full time job three children the herd of cattle and the business and now all of this as well, It gets me out of the house!
